ATLANTA – (October 1, 2019) – RHEDcloud, a consortium of universities, cloud providers and security vendors, today announced that Internet2 has joined the RHEDcloud Project. The Internet2 community, which includes 323 U.S. universities, 60 government agencies, 43 regional and state education networks, and 70 national research and education network partners representing 100 countries, expands the RHEDcloud Project mission and objectives.
The RHEDcloud and Internet2 collaboration aims to solve security and automation challenges for researchers working in the cloud, while ensuring compliance with rules, regulations and laws related to the storage, transmission, and processing of confidential information.
“We are looking to improve the performance of cloud characteristics,” said Kevin Morooney, Vice President for Trust and Identity Services and NET+ Services at Internet2. “Working jointly with RHEDcloud brings synergy and energy to facilitating the higher education’s cloud implementation efforts to further research and scholarship. The Internet2 community has always placed security, privacy and compliance at the forefront of its technology needs, and with the increasing move of research data to the cloud, the collaboration with RHEDcloud just makes sense.”

Emory University is launching the AWS at Emory service for select research groups in anticipation of general availability in Spring 2019. The security, automation, and integration technology that implements AWS at Emory serves as in initial contribution to the RHEDcloud Project.
